We are Cairns locals who have been building websites for around 10 years, mostly just for fun and personal projects, but my word we have learnt a lot along the way.
We are now offering our skills to Queensland businesses for a price you won’t believe!
To help our struggling/ closing businesses we are offering this service for just $200. Go viral during this virus and save yourself $300!
Why are we doing this?
Recently, we noticed that there are a plethora of local Queensland businesses that don’t have any online presence other than a Facebook page, which is terrible for trust and exposure.
We decided to reach out to a handful of those companies to ask why they don’t have a website and the results were almost exactly as we expected.
Before now, websites have always been too expensive for small companies to justify.
Just how expensive you might ask, well that depends how you get it built
Contract a web design company
For a standard cafe or restaurant website, you will be quoted anywhere from $2000 to $30,000 for the initial build, with recurring annual fees in excess of $500.
Build it yourself
Go down the hard route and you will still find that website builders like Weebly will charge $750 per year to use their platform. Website builders offer cheaper plans, but don’t be fooled. The cheaper plans lack critical customisation abilities that go into making a website work.
Build your own website platforms are notorious for being super slow. We have built several websites on these platforms and only managed to achieve speeds around 40/100.
So this will generally leave a small business with no other option than to use Facebook as their main online presence.
Why is this a problem?
Facebook is slow, painful to use and in 2020 it’s mostly cluttered with ads from your competitors. On top of this, it’s just plain unprofessional.
Research shows that people are moving away from Facebook faster than ever and moving onto the next social media platform.
This tells us one thing, social media platforms are unstable. If you remember Myspace, then you probably get my point.
Fortunately, there is an alternative
The only platform that has shown consistent growth since the internet was invented in 1983, is a dedicated website. Your domain name, solid hosting and the ability to customise and update as times change.
By far the best platform to build a website on is WordPress which powers a staggering 30% of the total internet!
Over the years, we experimented with numerous website building platforms before settling on WordPress about 5 years ago, so it’s safe to say that we know our way around.
Let us build a website for you and together, let’s see how much it improves your business.
What do our websites offer?
Search engine optimization
This is the critical backend details of the website that help it rank highly on Google and other search engines. Ranking highly is how your customers find you. Your new website will rank number 1 for not just your business name, but multiple search terms that could provide you with customers.
Full disclosure, it takes a while for Google to start ranking a new website. With Life In Cairns, for example, it can take 6 months for an article to start ranking well, which is completely normal.

You can drastically improve how fast this happens by doing these simple steps;
- Adding your website to your Instagram bio
- Adding your website to your Facebook page
- Adding your website to your Google listing
- Adding your website to Yellow Pages and True Local
- Adding your website to Tripadvisor and Yelp listings
- Promoting your new website to your current customers
- Reaching out to people who blogged about you and asking for a link.
These are simple steps that have a huge impact on how fast your new website will get to the top.
Really, really fast
Speed is one of the most important factors in what Google calls ‘The User Experience”. User experience is not only important for your customers but it also drastically affects your search result rankings.
Our websites are lightning-fast thanks to;
- Our custom theme
- Image optimization
- Page caching and content delivery network
- Superior hosting provider
- Mobile-first design
- Simple yet effective design
- A clean user experience that entices the user to stay on your site
Most websites will clock in around 50/100 on the Google Page Speed test for desktop and would be lucky to hit 30/100 on mobile. This equates to load times around 8 seconds. Statistically, most users will hit the back button before 3 seconds. Our websites load in less than 2 seconds guaranteed and often less than 1 second.
Test results do fluctuate depending on server load and internet connection speed but we have never seen our sites go below 2 seconds. During off-peak times we see pages loading in around 0.5 seconds quite frequently.
Here is a very detailed article about the effects of load time >> Click Here
Our websites are substantially better as you can see in the screenshots below.
For a website to be responsive it needs to work perfectly across all devices that can access it. In 2020, it’s actually pretty hard to get a website to look good and work well on both widescreen computer monitors and mobile phones.
We have perfected this with our custom theme ensuring that no matter what device finds your website, you can rest assured that it will work perfectly and look exceedingly professional.
Secure sockets layer
Otherwise known as an SSL certificate or HTTPS Encryption, this little padlock symbol next to your domain name is absolutely essential in 2020. Google hardly looks at websites that don’t have them anymore. Normally this would be an additional fee, but we are throwing it in for free.
A lot has changed in the last few years with domain names, but one thing will never change, you need a .com. There are hundreds of other extensions but if you want anyone to remember your website address, it just has to be .com.
When finding your domain name, we will use your business name first, if that is unavailable we will normally add your location. Basically, your domain name will be an accurate representation of your business that will be as short as possible and easy to remember.
Do you already own your domain name? No problem, we can provide instructions to point it towards our hosting. This will normally slow things down though, so please allow an extra 24 hours after you have completed the DNS transfer.
Okay sounds good, HOW MUCH?
This service includes your domain name, your website, on-page SEO, hosting for 1 year and Google submission. Following years will be just $100 per year. Most companies will charge around $600 per year for hosting!
In order to qualify for this service, your business needs to be in Queensland and have a physical location. We don’t build websites for people who are looking to start an online store, though please feel free to email us if that is you and we might be able to offer some guidance.
Why our websites aren’t “all flashy”
Full-screen image sliders, video backgrounds and fancy effects are all outdated. Five years ago, people were impressed with a website that had all of these things. In 2020, people want a clean, minimalistic user experience that gives them the information they are looking for as fast as possible.
What do we need from you
- A brief description of your business
- Photos 15-30
- Menu (preferably typed)
Once we receive this we will get to work and have your site live within 48 hours. Oh and money, I nearly forgot that part.
What if you change your menu, phone number or address? Or perhaps you have some amazing new photos you would like to highlight? Just send us an email and we will get on it.
Obviously, we don’t have time to make changes daily but keep your requests within reason and we will happily perform the updates without charging any fees.
